Two things: I feel like I watched a Mythbusters episode circa 2007 with my brother where they disproved this theory but also read a startlingly upsetting novel around that same time where just this very thing happens to the narrator’s beloved brother.  So, as it might always, it comes down to things I know aren’t true vs. things I believe might be; oftener than not I tend to think of fiction as being more accessible than, I don’t know, my alarm clock every morning.  Which leads to silly things like being in love with Quentin Compson in a dream once, or actually watching a theory disproved on television and looking down at a poorly constructed work of fiction in my hands and thinking well, okay.  Okay then.  And Mike, if you’re reading this, there are probably better ways to die on the DC Metro.
